The Leatherman Super Tool and MUT are both workhorses designed to take on the toughest jobs in their respective specialties. The Super Tool 300 is the multi-tool built for the working man. The MUT is the shooter’s companion. Both multi-tools are tough, versatile, and are perfectly capable of getting things done, and done well.

After a brief hiatus, Leatherman has brought back its award-winning Super Tool line, first introduced in the 90s. The Super Tool 300 is the current version and it is one tough and uncompromising implement. The centerpiece of this powerhouse gadget is its sleek, streamlined yet tough pliers, around which the rest of the multi tool is built.

The pliers taper off to allow it to fit into small cracks and openings. The pliers head is removable so you can sharpen or replace it right then and there. The entire body is built out of stainless steel, and feels strong and solid when gripped. Even while wearing gloves, it’s easy to get at the tools embedded in the handle because of the generous side cutouts. The handles are rolled and are comfortable to grip.

The Leatherman Super Tool 300 comes with 19 components tucked into the handles. There are two blades: a 420HC clip point knife and a 420HC Sheepsfoot serrated knife. Wire cutters, strippers and crimpers are included, as are fixed screwdrivers. Rounding out the toolset are a file, saw, bottle and can openers, a ruler and an awl. The body is made entirely out of stainless steel.

The armed forces helped put together and build the Leatherman MUT. It is the first multi-tool designed to work for both military and civilian shooters, and it proudly displays this military pedigree. A number of areas on the MUT are threaded and intended for inserting cleaning rods and brushes, and all the screwdriver bits conform to US military and civilian sighting equipment standards. The MUT is also designed to be taken apart so that its most commonly used components can be replaced quickly and on the fly. The Leatherman MUT was intended to be the multi tool to accompany your firearm, and is highly recommended for use with the M-16, M-1, and AR-15 platforms.

The MUT shares the same functionality as the other multi tools in the Leatherman line. The external knife is a 420HC stainless steel clip point combo straight and serrated blade. 18 tools make up its inventory, and because the MUT is a Leatherman youíll find a replaceable screwdriver tucked in the handle.

There’s a replaceable cutter that can be used to cut through 550 chord, strapping, tie-wraps, flexicuffs and a wide range of other strapping materials. A carabiner clip and a bottle opener are also tucked neatly inside the handle, and there is a small solid knob on one end that serves as a hammer. Even the MOLLE sheathe can be used as a 9 mm magazine clip.
