Fly Fishing Journals – Keep Track of Your Trips   by Rick Chapo

Fly Fishing is addictive. Once you start, you’ll never stop. Whether you are going to the
local water hole or to Alaska, you should use a Fly Fishing journal to keep track of your sessions.

Fly Fishing Journals

Fly fishing is more than just fishing, it’s a peaceful, surreal activity. For many, there is almost a meditative quality to casting. For avid fly fisherman, fly fishing trips to locations such as the Battenkill River in Vermont, Green River in Utah and Letort in Pennsylvania are a must. Of course, the possibility of trips to Argentina, Alaska and other exotic locations can make ones eyes glassy. For many, however, past Fly Fishing Experiences fade from the memory with time. If you had keep a fly fishing journal, this doesn’t have to be the case.

There are famous instances of people keeping journals throughout time. Of course, Anne Frank’s Diary is the best example. In her diary, Anne kept a running commentary of the two years her family spent hiding from the Nazis. While your fly fishing sessions will hopefully be more lighthearted, keeping a journal will let you remember them as the years pass.

A good fly fishing journal combines a number of characteristics. First, it should be compact. Second, it should have a water-resistant pages and a case to protect it from the elements. Third, the journal should contain blank areas to write your notes. Fourth, the journal should contain cue spaces to remind you to keep notes on specific things. Cues should include:

1. Who you went fishing with,

2. The weather conditions,

3. The fishing conditions,

4. The flies you used, what worked and what didn’t,

5. What you caught, and

6. Lodging and places to eat,

As time passes, your fly fishing journal can be used as:

1. A guide for you or friends that return the same location,

2. Information on gear and flies to take,

3. Memories to reflect upon years later, and

4. Something to pass on to your children and grandchildren.

Keeping a fly fishing journal only requires a few minutes of writing. You can fill it out on the ride home or during a break. As time passes, your journal will become a collection of incredibly valuable fly fishing information. Imagine the look on a friend’s face after they mention going on a trip and you whip out your journal for the spot!

The Best Bass Fishing Adventures   by Oscar Uzoma

The best bass fishing adventures take place at Lake Ontario, Finger Lake, St. Lawrence River, New York lakes, Kent Lakes, and so on. One of the popular salmons is the Coho, which is sought out in various areas around Michigan. The Silver salmon was spotted one year prior to the Chinook salmon in Lake Michigan.

Bass anglers enjoy hunting Coho since the World’s Largest Bass was recorded, weighing in at 39-pounds. The fish was caught at Michigan’s “Little Manistee weir.”

Coho is an Anadromous creature that spread out during off seasons to the Great Lakes, or in hatcheries of rivers around Michigan. The male Jack Salmon a member of Coho often weighs up to 12-pounds with the smallest jack weighing 2-pounds. The best time to catch Coho is during summer months, near the beaches in Michigan. To catch thIs fish, try using emerald shiners, smelt, and streamers that imitate alewives. During spawning months use, grab egg flies, or fluorescent streamers, such as orange or red.

Pink Salmon is one of Michigan’s largest game fish. Pink Salmon has been noted in Lake Superior, Lake Huron, and various areas around Ontario. The Pink Salmon are wild fish with a 2-year cycle. The fish in Michigan waters weigh anywhere from two-pounds and grows up to 4-pounds. To catch Pink Salmon try using pink and/or purple streamers, nymphs, or egg patterns.

Atlantic Salmon are actually trout. The fish are found at Torch Lake, St. Mary’s River, and various waters around Michigan. During the late months of June, you will find a fishery of Atlantic salmon. Like Trout, Atlantic Salmon do not pass on after spawning, which takes place in fall. Around Michigan waters, you will catch up to 12-pound Salmon with the smallest weighing around 6-pounds.

The large St. Mary’s River is where you will find fish that surface in clear water. Try using streamers or nymphs to catch Atlantic salmon. Flies, or lure that works to catch Steelhead bass also works well during early summer months.

Bass fishing includes the brown trout, rainbow trout, and steelhead as well. Brown trout are often found in Florida, Georgia, California, and at Pere Marquette River located in Michigan. You will also found brown trout in the lowest Peninsula of Michigan. Brown trout have dark spots that stretch over olive and/or brown backdrops.

Look for brown bass in fertile waters, and during the months, that river has quality. Fishing in Michigan waters, such as streams will bring you 22-inch bass, the bass around the Great Lakes produce State or World Record Trophy or Tourney fish. You will catch the fish in rivers during fall months. Lake runs is a good time to catch brown trout also, since you will find 8-pound fish where the dam is blocked.

To catch brown bass try using dry flies, burrowing mayflies, Hexagenia, brown drake, etc. The greatest fish spots during wake hours are near bank hideouts, wooded areas, etc. Use crayfish and streamers when fishing during wake hours. If you want, the largest bass use its favorite lure, i.e. crayfish.

Anglers enjoy catching rainbow trout or steelhead fish as well. Rainbow trout is spotted in various areas of the world, including the California McCloud River. Anadromous trout, such as the rainbow and steelhead have strains on Non-Migratory rainbow fish, and steelhead fish during warmest seasons were introduced in Michigan waters. You will find rainbow trout and steelhead in Manistee Pine River, located in Michigan, at the Great Lakes, and so on. The steelhead is ideally caught in the Great Lakes of Michigan, since these amazing fish weigh up to 20-pounds.

Fishing Tackle Review: Berkley Lightning Rod Shock Spinning Rod   by Tommy Jones

Since I am an avid angler, I love to research different types of fishing tackle and correlated gear. I find it rather remarkable that in the 40 years I’ve been fishing, trends seem to appear and disappear. I really do have to acknowledge that I have followed several fads, usually with bad outcomes. Lesson clearly learned. Therefore, today I stick to tested, tried-and-true fishing equipment that gives me remarkable effectiveness and more favourable outcomes. Amongst my overall preferred fishing rods would be the Berkley Lightning Rod® shock spinning rod. The following is some information regarding this outstanding fishing rod.

Major Options that come with the Berkley Lightning Rod® Shock Spinning Rod

This fishing rod has been available since the mid-1980s, and it has a well-deserved, practically infamous repute. The Lightning Rod® brings together all the best qualities of a high quality rod into one cost-effective discount package. Priced at approximately £45.00 to £55.00, this fishing rod supplies a superb entrée for individuals who would like to get started in spinning. For that price, you’re going to get a fishing rod with a high graphite content blank that you’d probably anticipate to cost much more. This fishing rod has plenty of lightweight sensitivity, as well as high quality titanium-coated guide frames. The guide frames’ stainless-steel inserts assure easy casts and also retrieves whilst lessening line wear considerably. I’ve additionally determined the Lightning Rod® to be really well balanced. What I like the best in regards to this fishing rod is a highlight known as the “strike amplifying tip” which is a blend of fibreglass and graphite. This blend translates into a rod that has a slower-reacting tip. This, in turn, translates into a fewer number of lost fish.

More Details On the Berkley Lightning Rod®

This rod’s very careful and well-planned design includes a split grip. This translates to better stableness and enhanced sensitivity whilst trying to keep the weight as light as it can be. The suspended reel seat which functions to lower reel vibration, furthermore leads to excellent sensitivity. 1K Power Helix® rod engineering increases toughness in places you truly need it — in the backbone. This kind of fishing rod is designed to complement the usage of braided superline, an item that many fishermen like due to its slighter diameter, total stretch resistance and remarkable power. This Lightning Rod’s action is furthermore customized to be used with superline. Also the guide frames are manufactured to help lessen the turning and bending that is frequent if fishing with superline. There are plenty of refined features in regards to this rod that I love. To illustrate, the tip-guide rounds out near the tip. It has the effect of minimizing loop knots brought on by the wind.

About Berkley

Berkley is a company which works to “make fishing fun and help anglers everywhere catch more fish”make fishing a pleasure and assist fishers everywhere to catch more fish. Berkley carries a solid commitment to employing the latest and most successful engineering to support that mission and improve fishing tackle performance. The organization also created the Berkley Conservation Institute (BCI), an group whose goal is to safeguard the well-being of all the fish in the world. Is there anything more to say? I am very happy to rate this excellent piece of fishing tackle at 4.5 of a potential 5 stars.

Oregon Salmon Fishing For King Salmon   by Eliseo Lao

While not as well known as many of the other salmon fishing spots in the United States such as Michigan, Washington and Alaska, Oregon salmon fishing offers an amazing virtually year round fishing experience. One of the most known Oregon salmon fishing events is the annual return of King salmon to the area. The south Oregon coast has over one hundred and eighty miles of coastline that is easily fished for huge fall King salmon, many weighing over thirty pounds. It is estimated that approximately 65,000 King salmon will be caught during the Oregon salmon fishing season.

Some of the most popular Oregon salmon fishing hot spots are:

* Rogue River – divided into three sections the Upper, Middle and Lower, the Rogue River is considered a sports fisherman’s delight. The Rogue River is over 200 miles in length and originates from high in the mountains of Crater Lake National Park. The Upper sections of the river provide both salmon and trout fishing, as well as white water rafting, camping and hiking opportunities. The Middle Rogue River section is less rapidly moving water, and provides great opportunities for family rafting and fishing. Fly Fishing and spinner fishing is very popular in the deep, rock bottomed ponds and eddies that dot this area of the river. July to October are the key months for Oregon salmon fishing in this part of the river. The lower part of the Rogue River has excellent opportunities for spring and fall King as well as Silver salmon fishing.

* Rogue River Canyon – More known for the amazing white water rafting and the dramatic water movement throughout the canyon than the fishing, it is still a great place to see and experience. There is some Fly Fishing opportunities at the lower end of the Rogue River Canyon.

* Oregon coast – this is the most frequently fished area in Oregon for King salmon. The coast is home to many different guided tours and charters, but typically the ocean is relatively calm and can easily be fished without the need of a guide, however one is generally recommended for your first few outings. The area of the Chetco River at Bookings Harbor is particularly well known for fall King fishing.

* Gold Beach – this is the area where the Rogue River empties into the coastal waters. King salmon fishing is typically done all year round, with the heaviest runs being in March to July. Fall Chinook or King salmon typically run from August through to October. Silver salmon are also present in the fall from September through October.

One of the great features of Oregon salmon fishing is the populated areas along the coast that are ideal for hotels, accommodations or just to pick up supplies. There are many day camping and long-term camping areas located along the coast for those anglers that want to experience the great outdoors of Oregon.
