Fly Fishing Float Tubes

Spring Has Sprung, Time To Go Fishing   by Art Gib

Ice fishing is not for the faint of heart, it is for the die-hard fans who can’t possibly imagine a month without dangling a line in the water. Sometimes it can be very successful but always it is very cold. For those that have little shelters, it can be better as far as weather goes, but a little claustrophobic and the view leaves something to be desired.

Spring is time to get out on the river banks, blow up the float tube or wax the boat. The waters clear, the sky blue and the temperatures well above freezing. Get your big game fishing tackle at your local sporting good store or order online for great prices including fishing reels, bait, spinning reels, rods and a thousand types of flies, spinners, line and every conceivable shiny object calculated to attract the attention of a fish.

Growing up we fished off the pier in California, I loved the easy, quick fishing entailed in that. We loaded up our gear, headed 20 minutes to the beach, my Dad and I would watch the sunset, surfers and chat with the other fishermen (women), after about an hour, I would have had enough, we packed up our three or four fish and headed home. Good time had by all and the fish were delicious.

Fast forward five or so years, I got married to a avid fisherman, moved to the Rocky Mountains and went ice fishing for the first time. While the novelty of poking a hole and threading a line down through it did last a little while, after about an hour I was cold and bored and ready to head out. Not quite pier fishing. We had all the tackle, fishing gear needed and were actually successful, but the cold made it hard to appreciated.

Now I just go on the spring outings with a stack of books and some good food. I still love to fish, but I am more of a fisher appreciator than the actual one dangling the hook anymore. I love the mountain streams, a beautiful day on the lake or a ride down the Green in a raft. Warm spring days, hot summer days are perfect for fishing.
