At the end of 19th century, a young man named David Abercrombie set up David t. Abercrombie & Co. in New York City, particularly selling upscale equipments for outdoor activities and hunting. Since then, the name of the company changed from the hard-to-say Abercrombie to a harder-to-say Abercrombie Clothing.
However, the combination of them was just like marry. Everything was fine before marriage and quarrels never stopped after marriage. Abercrombie’s conservative attitude always made Fitch who was eager to expand crazy. At that time, A & F was a supplier providing sports kits for the wealth. At the beginning of 20th century, Abercrombie at last could not bear it. He sold his shares in the company and left the company.
However, Fitch decided to retain the previous “Abercrombie” part in order to make the name of company cool. Then, Fitch could finally realize his desirable expansion. He changed the rule before that putting all ther stuff orderly on the shelf, all the clothes and socks in the store looked like being worn for two or three times, the wigwams were very dirty and at the corner of the store there was even a fire. A & F have still maintained this style up to now. Also because of the hunting background,Womens Abercrombie fitch is marked by an elk head. That fire was good and it turned out that the store had not been burnt down but a flagship store where men’s and women’s sportswear was started to be sold was opened in Fifth Avenue in New York. Fitch built a blockhouse as his dwelling at the top floor of the building of the reinforced concrete store which had a fishpond to let the customer try the fishing rod. Many celebrities like articles and clothes of A&F, for example, Roosevelt used it when he went adventuring to Africa, Robert Peary used it when he explored to the North Pole. Besides, Hemingway’s shotgun and the fishing tackle of Hoover and Eisenhower were A&F. And in that year, A&F became the largest sports equipment company in the world.
In 1928, Fitch retired with money and legend. Then the company suffered loss, and claimed bankruptcy in 70′s economic recession in US. In 1988, Limited company bought A&F’s low-priced products sales department. In 1992, the chairman of Limited company favored Jefferies’ outstanding talent in leisure wearing design, so he invited him and injected new engergy into A&F brand. Since then, Mens abercrombie Fitch started to rejuvenate vitality. In Jeffries’ opinion, what consumers want is the classic American Apparel with a high quality and can reveal the young people’s mind.
