A Review of Belize’s Turtle Inn

Belize is less than two hours by air from Houston, New Orleans and Miami.

The Sofia, a private Islander aircraft, can transport you from Belize City to Turtle Inn in less than an hour. Buses and commercial airlines also fly between Belize City and Placencia

Accommodation

Turtle Inn is a small and intimate inn on a big beach.

There are 18 bungalows, all right beside the beach, which are built in the style of traditional Balinese thatched huts, with large screened decks, ample living spaces, and ornate carved doors. Built by Mayan Indians they provide just the right amount of tropical ambience. Each is comfortably rustic and has a private bath with hot water, 110 volt electricity, ceiling fans and tropical hardwood interiors, with hammocks slung on the verandas. Dining

There are two dining choices.

Firstly the open air dining room, sheltered under a palm thatch roof, and cooled by sea breezes, is very comfortable and relaxed. Here you can enjoy food which has a genuine Italian Caribbean twist, including genuine pizzas prepared in a wood burning oven, and a wide variety of pasta and other traditional Italian Specials. The vegetables are all organic, and I’m not forgetting the abundant freshly caught seafood. Dining under lantern light is so romantic, and not to forget the menu changes every day. The lovely Belizean wait staff wear white linen shirts and sarongs.

In addition to the main restaurant, there is dining right on the beach under umbrellas. Plates are traditional wooden platters covered with banana leaf. In an all seafood menu you can choose your lobster (in season), prawns, river lobster and fish, conch cooked on the beach over glowing coconut husks and served to your table at the water’s edge.

Today I would like to talk a bit about trout fishing lures.The last cavity of trout is by far the not the easiest fish. Why? Trout is not the smartest fish out there. The truth is that many do not. what rod/reel should i get for estury/river bass/salmon fishing?

hi. im fairly new to fishing.. i have a beachcaster rod at the moment for sea fishing. i use it for fishing in the rivers and high upstream estury fishing but it is a bit to big i think.

i want a great rod and reel for catching bass and salmon. i live in the uk ..

i like spinning and bait fishing ( crabs,ragworm,lugworm etc)

my price range is about £50 – £100 for the rod and the same for the reel.

i have seen one on ebay but i dont think its right. its a shakespear BWLD 1100 ugly stik 8.6ft 20-25lb heavy action rod.. i think its for boats but would it do for my fishing. if not for the rivers would it be a good replacement for my beachcaster for shore fishing?

as a bonus if it could be a travel rod that would be great as i like backpacking/fishing but thats secondary. the most imprtant thing is getting the best rod for the job

I live in Colorado, I am a trout fisherman, trout fishing, but lately I have to travel a long way. I fish the lake a good place to fish, but fishing for trout has dropped a lot. Fly Fishing Stripers

There are many differences from saltwater fly fishing in Northern California and fly fishing a local stream. The rod is longer, reel is larger, and saltwater rated. The line is often a shooting head with running line behind it and the flies are demonstratively bigger. But the major possible catch is worth the expense, the striped bass, salmon, and steelhead. They come into shallow water in pursuit of anchovies and other baitfish.

The striped bass is limited to around the San Francisco Bay area. They use the bay in transit to spawning grounds in the Sacramento River watershed. Anchovies are their main diet. If you ever see a flock of seagull hovering and diving over an area, go there quickly because they are feeding off the scraps of some school of feeding fish. Chances are the fish are stripers but whatever the species it is a premium opportunity to get in some good fishing.

Salmon and steelhead are more likely caught from Monterey Bay northward to the Oregon border and beyond. Jetties and points are the best places to take them. Like the striper any shiner especially an anchovy imitation will be your best bet. Unless they are feeding on the surface use the weighted line to get about half way down from the surface. You can usually judge the water deep from the terrain you are fishing from. If it is a gentle sloping beach that terrain generally goes on into the water. If it is a point the water gets much deeper from shore. If fishing from a jetty or a point count to ten then strip back your fly. Try that for a while and you have no luck, count to twenty. Continue this method until you start catching rockfish. Then you know you’re near the bottom and go back up to the previous number unless you like catching lingcod and other similar species.

In Southern California, the surf fish are on the whole smaller. An 8wt 9′ rod will work nicely. The reel still must be rated for saltwater use. A shiner or a perch imitation works well. Again a shooting rig with a weighted line tied to a running line is the best configuration. Fishing for the Yellowfin Croaker, the Barred Surf Perch, the Spotfin Croaker and the prized coVina are all possible catches. Stripping your fly about mid-water depth will yield the best results. Don’t be afraid if you hook a Leopard Shark just enjoy the fight. They can reach 7′ and are harmless onshore unless provoked. Saltwater fly fishing in California can be rewarding but you often have to bide your time before you catch that 60-pound striper.
