As many anglers will attest, your most significant piece of equipment when fishing is your rod. Fishing Rods are designed out of sturdy materials such as fiberglass, graphite and bamboo and can be anywhere from six feet long all the way up to 12 feet. The rod size is dependent on the size of fish that you are attempting to catch.
Graphite Fishing Rods are popular among beginners as the fiberglass rods can be somewhat heavier. Bamboo rods are usually considered to be one of the best Fishing Rods you can use as they are not only light but rather flexible compared to other kinds of materials. The more serious or professional fishermen will usually have a bamboo fishing rod in hand. As for the price, bamboo rods can range anywhere from $5 all the way up to hundreds of dollars if you are looking for a handcrafted version.
Collecting and restoring classic bamboo rods is also a popular hobby among the fishing community as some restored equipment can sell at fishing shows for over $500. Can you believe these are rods that have been found in people’s basements, attics, eBay or even on Craigslist?

Help choosing a fishing rod?
I’m looking for a good bait casting rod. I was thinking about either the Berkley Amp or the Berkley Lighting rod shock. If you want to introduce me into new rods they have to be in a price range of $20-$50. Also if you find one it has to be at Cabela’s or Bass Pro Shops. Thanks.
In your price range, I’d personally go with the Bass Pro Shops Tourney Special rod, for $50 at Bass Pro Shops. It’s similar to the Bionic Blade, with just a tad-bit cheaper components. Berkley Amp’s SUCK, check out the reviews. Especially the one at Cabela’s. One dude who made a review said he was gettin’ jiggy with his girlfriend and knocked down the shade which hit the rod and broke the reel seat. Not durable enough.
Berkley Lightning Rod Shocks are fine rods. But I would prefer the Tourney Special I recommended.

Is the rod easy to assemble and disassemble? You’re going to be putting the rod together and taking it apart quite frequently, so make sure it’s easy to do. One extra tip is to try doing this wearing gloves, so you know it won’t be too tricky when you’re by the lake.
