Plastic Worm   by jekky

It has been suggested that this article or section be merged into Soft plastic lure. (Discuss)

Orange plastic worm.

A plastic worm (or trout worm) is a plastic fishing lure, generally made to simulate an earthworm. Plastic worms can carry a variety of shapes, colors and sizes, and are made from a variety of synthetic polymers. Some are even scented to simulate live bait.

Plastic worms can be rigged on the line many different ways. Commonly they are used with a small fish hook and a split shot weight to keep the lure deeper in the water. The fishing equipment recommended is a 7 foot fishing rod with 8 to 10lb fishing line.

A common fishing strategy is to configure them as a Texas Rig, and bounce them off the bottom. The key is to jig near or in cover such as weeds and trees, this technique is commonly referred to as flipping and pitching.

A typical twister worm or twister tail.

“Twister Worm” is commonly called a grub, not a “twister worm”, even though the action of the tail is defined as a twisting motion of the body resembling that of a grub.

Generally there is but one type of worm, the plastic worm. This worm comes in a variety of lengths, styles, and colors to attract different fish species. Ironically, the plastic worm, sometimes called a “trout worm”, is often unreliable as a lure for trout fishing, and therefore many anglers do not use them for trout fishing. Bass and panfish species (bluegill, sunfish, etc) tend to bite these lures more than other species.

Fly Fishing Peacock Bass

Fishing In Panama’s Gatun Lake   by Chris Gill

Fishing is a great way to spend some time away from the hectic life. Nothing compares to the thrill and excitement of getting to angle your own fish. Panama is one of the “jewels” that Central and South America can offer the nature lover. It is recognized as one of the top fishing destinations. Lake Gatun is a tropical paradise and a great fishing spot in Panama.

Fresh water fishing in Gatun Lake is a once in a lifetime experience. It is particularly famous for its fresh water Peacock Bass fishing. Gatun Lake has an area of 425 square kilometers and is located 26 meters above sea level. It stores 183,000,000,000 ft³ of water. The lake is a major highway for ships traveling from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Gatun Lake has been protected in its natural state for over 100 years. The proximity to the city, good weather, great disposition and skills of the guides all add to the wonderful experience. Many elusive reptiles, birds and mammals can be observed along the countless shores and amid the tropical rain forest during a typical Fly Fishing day.

Gatun Lake is the home of the Cichla Monoculus [aka Peacock Bass or Sargento] and offers Snook and Tarpon as well. The Peacock Bass was introduced in Panama from the Amazon Basin together with other species such as the “Oscar”. It is well known in South America for its size and ferocity. The ferocious Peacock Bass [ranges from 1lb. to 10lbs] of Gatun Lake is a challenging fish to catch using fly rods.

Fly rods with a floating weight forward line are used to fish the Peacock Bass in the Gatun Lake. Making long casts with a fairly big popper is very important. You will be making a lot of casts and double stripping with erratic jerks. Best flies for the Peacock Bass are big noisy poppers with lots of flash. Other flies that also work are closures, small streamers, sea duecers, whistlers, shrimp patterns, insects imitations and baitfish deceivers on 1/0 or smaller hooks.

An accomplished fly fisher with a veteran Fly Fishing guide can quite easily catch about hundred Peacock Bass at Lake Gatun on a typical day. As Peacock Bass don’t feed at night they are terribly hungry at first light and again as darkness approaches they become frantic for food. Low light conditions and looming hunger pangs during early morning and late afternoon are the best times to fool big bass.

While Fly Fishing Panama there are several other wonderful tropical game fish likely to be encountered in Gatun Lake. Jaguar Guapote, a beautiful aquarium species transplanted into Gatun Lake from the Atlantic mountain slopes of Nicaragua, are often caught while fly casting for Peacock Bass. They are somewhat similar in shape and manner to the Peacock Bass, but not as colorful.

From May to December is the rainy season and Gatun Lake is mostly flat calm with occasional afternoon squalls. January to April in which it rarely rains at all is the dry season with typical afternoon breezes from the north creating a 1 to 3 foot chop in open water passes. However, there are plenty of areas for tropical Fly Fishing in the backwater creeks of the lake and on the lee side of the many islands and points. Resultant weather and lake conditions are optimal for Panama fly fishing trips all year long.

Fishing trips can make your valuable occasion memorable, relaxing, exciting and adventurous. Plan a fishing trip on this vacation to cherish your holiday forever…

Fishing Rod Hard Case

bass fishing tackle – bass fishing lure – bass fishing decor   by bassfishing

This is the last article in our series entitles upper extremities of fishing low. If you missed any of our previous articles in this series that I recommend highly make a quick search found while compiling some of the best fishing techniques low to help you get lower. With all that said, let ‘s look at the issue of today’ s senior fisheries low inclines article. The low today will look at the fishing rods. The secret behind many fishing techniques is low knowledge and understanding of the presentation appropriate to catch that lunker that dreamed about the night before. Mane every time they spy a bed of reeds that this is exactly the first thing you work with my mind and my heart starts pumping as if I win the lottery. No wonder it actually happens because any good fisherman from the elite of bassmaster will tell you that fishing rods is the low gold. Here are some things to bear in mind when the fishing rods.

1. Getting a large mold. This is one of the upper extremities most valuable fisheries low when it comes to fishing in the reeds. The reason is that the structure of the weed is actually quite thin around the low and without determining far enough away from low and go for the longer distance casts, you risk spooking the bass. I sense so that the farther away you are low in this situation will be under the less sensitive to their presentations.

2. The trajectory of the mold. Wow bet you never saw that one coming. Much fisherman finds the low trajectory of his actual mold yet rarely speaks with an elite of bassmaster and I ‘ll tell that he has his mind on it all the time. It is one the most critical aspects to achieve a large mold. The thick canes do not lend themselves well to the techniques behind the bar at a stretch or it will cause much encachados and hang up. What I like to do in growth plate was thrown to the sky. The idea is to achieve high and long. Doing so will make you a better chance of landing among the reeds without hang ups and place bait or deceives right into the bass’ nose s.

3. If you don ‘t get a “strike; toothpick It died.” Fishing is as low reeds who walks fine line, and sometimes you ‘ll have no idea if you crossed. You could set back far enough, cast their lures up to heaven and still not get any strikes. It ‘s hard to say the exact reason, perhaps you think you’re far enough away from low that not Spook, but aren’ t Perhaps the person you fished this point and time before the shy made low, there is a million reasons, so if you don ‘t get a strike after some molds, he died stick to them. Leave your bait or lure sit there for a few minutes, just in case the low could think of what his presentation before key. After his conviction there is nothing (or your patience just can ‘t it takes more) work the lure back slowly, don’ t horse of the recovery as you ‘ll spectrum of not only low but throughout the chapel probably get hung up in the reeds of fact and then dinner. This fishing method can frustrate low but learning to tackle the weeds of the delicacy is the real winner down for fishing rods.

Well there you go upper limbs of a rapid drop in pairs fishing to fish the reeds that are sure to help get lower. The goal of this series was to give large fishing techniques low so you can make the elite next bassmaster. So what are you waiting for head turned outwards, which aligns wet and catch the lunker of a lifetime. Veale in the water.

Fishing Rods And Reels To The Rescue   by Stewart Ames

An all time favorite activity is sport fishing. Fishing provides family and friends the chance to go catch lunch. And to do it efficiently, reliable reels and rods are a must. Sporting tackle associations, in cooperation with manufacturers have invested thousands of man hours and billions of dollars in efforts to put a rod and fish reel in everyone’s hand. Tackle has been produced to fit every circumstance and every size fisherman. Cartoon characters have been solicited to give children a reason to participate and, in play acting the part learn a little and if they do catch a fish, the seed gets planted.

If it’s time to get ready for spring; promotional materials and television ads, are already showing up. Competition for sport fishing dollars has grown with the population and more and more communities have taken under developed water shed areas with lakes and converted them to clean, attractive places for fishermen and families to recreate. When modestly priced fishing reels and rods are readily available, the public will fish. Some cities public lakes are large enough for boats, and boats bring more fishing opportunities which means you will buy more fishing reels.

Some times the love of fishing becomes a vocation. Professional fishing has developed over the last thirty years from local competitions that give away ribbons or trophies to the tournaments of today that give away boats, fishing reels and rods, and cash. So much cash is available to the professional fisherman that winnings of over one million dollars are not un-common. And there are thousands of pro-fishermen that aren’t making millions, but they do make good livings. The tackle industry provides every type of fish reel that any sector needs. Whether it’s the grand kids on the bank of a local creek or fishing a tournament thousand of miles from home on a lake you have only read about, one thing is a given, fishing reels and rods work together to provide a good experience.

If you are an angler that fishes salt water, you use a completely different tackle system. Large carnivorous fish will totally destroy fresh water tackle. The three pound bass in Kansas takes one type of tackle and a three hundred pound tuna off the coast of Peru requires another type of fish reel. Line and rod combinations are designed for fish over a thousand pounds. Salt water fish reels can weigh more than twenty five pounds and hold over three hundred yards of two hundred and fifty pound test line. Big fish need big tackle.

Major tackle manufacturers sell complete kits that come with every basic piece of tackle and fishing reels and rods that any average weekend fisherman can use to catch fish. The tackle box has ample room for Christmas and Fathers Day gadgets that every fisherman needs, or at least your wife and kids lovingly think they need. After all is there really such a thing as too much stuff?
