What You Can Use As Trout Fishing Bait by Linda Larsson
Bait is any substance used to attract and catch fish. There are two types of trout fishing bait, natural fishing bait and artificial fishing bait.
Natural fishing bait has been used for centuries to catch trout. They include worms, insects and small fish which trout feeds on. Natural bait can be used while it is alive or dead. They attract the trout by means of color, texture and odor. Common trout bait also includes cheese and garlic which have been found to attract trout through smell.
The natural fishing bait is the best for trout fishing. This is more so in waters where there are not many insects to feed on. This way the trout may not be attracted by artificial bait resembling an insect.
Fishermen often find it hard to access natural bait and have turned to artificial bait. Artificial bait is also known as a fly. It is made by tying feathers, hair, fur or other materials to a hook. This resembles an insect, fish or crustacean the trout is likely to feed on.
A fly is made to either float on the water or sink to the bottom. Floating flies are the dry flies and streamers. The sinking types are the wet flies and the nymphs.
Selecting the right fly will determine the success of fishing. The angler has to have a little knowledge about the seasons when insects are hatching. Each season is represented by a different type of fly that resembles a particular type of insect.
Also, he will have to determine the type of fly to use in particular situations. If he is fishing in clear water, using a small fly will be effective in attracting the trout. Using larger flies is recommended in non clear water.
To use a floating or sinking fly is another thing to consider. Floating flies are best used in slow moving water. This gives the trout an impression of a floating insect or hatching nymph. Moving water fishing is more effective with the sinking flies.
Apart from the fliers, other artificial trout fishing bait is the use of electronic gadgets which are attached on the hook. These are small gadgets which produce a small vibration which results in tiny waves. The waves are identified by the trout as an insect which is struggling on the water surface. This type of bait is still new in its use and quite expensive.
Bait has been used for centuries in the fishing of trout. They are usually quite effective if the angler wishes to catch a few large fish. Their use also requires a lot of patience and practice.
To identify the trout fishing bait for use requires a lot of considerations. These include the trout’s diet, cost of the bait, season of fishing, the type of trout one wants to catch and the various laws in the area of fishing. For example some states in the United States prohibit use of small fish as bait due to the risk of spreading disease.
