Trout Season Opening in NJ by Don
After a cold snowy winter, the days begin to warmer and it is time to escape to the great outdoors. In April Trout Season opens up in many places around the country. Here in New Jersey opening day for trout fishing begins on April 9, 2011. Anglers come out to share some fresh air, clean water and freshly stock rivers and lakes around the Garden State.
Rivers like the Ramapo, Pequest, Musconetcon, Wanaque in North Jersey plus other streams and lakes are home to the trout. Moving to the center of the state these rivers host trout Raritan, Passaic, Rahway, and Manasquan. Even rides down south to the Batsto, Mullica and Maurice Rivers or traveling along the Delaware are home to the trout. Trout are stocked by the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife. Also Lakes, Ponds, brooks and streams are additional locations to try trout fishing. Trout are raised in the Pequest Hatchery and released throughout the counties so there are plenty of fish for everyone.
Trout can be caught by anyone from young children to senior citizens. In New Jersey and states around the U. S. a Fishing License is required. In New Jersey the age a person needs a license is 16 and ends at 69 with different age groups getting discounts. The License including the trout stamp is used to help support the Hatchery. There are numerous advantages to the Hatchery including an open house the first weekend in April.
Now there are basically three different types of trout stocked in New Jersey. The Brook Trout native around North America in Ponds, small streams and creeks are green to brown in color have a distinct marble pattern along their body. The Brook trout lives in water up usually between 36 to 72 degrees grow up to 33 inches and lives about 15 years. The Brown trout have a golden color with a blue halo with red spots are found in Similar waters. These are usually the hardest and smartest trout to catch. The next is The Rainbow Trout. Describe by their Rainbow appearance these are beautiful fish to catch. The Rainbow Trout has been introduced to over 45 countries for food and sport.
Equipment needed to fish and catch trout comes in many shapes and forms. The basic is the rod and reel. A light to medium action rod is the best for trout fishing. Depending on the action and fight you want. Heavy duty rods that are used for Salt Water Fishing are too strong for trout fishing. The Brand names for Fishing rods are G.Loomis, Shakespeare, Quantum and more. Reels are the next thing to consider again since trout fishing does not require offshore rigs. Small Spinner rods work nice with lightweight line. Brands such at Daiwa, Flueger, and Shakespeare and Quantum wheels are a few names associated with Fishing. Bait and some additional fishing tackle is all that is need to enjoy Opening Day.
